A test voltage applied to switched-mode power supplies and galvanically isolated DC/DC converters for a measurement period of usually 60 seconds. However, this is not a measure of the potential difference permitted in continuous operation.
For galvanic isolation, an isolating transformer is used to which special requirements are placed. It must be particularly difficult to break through the insulation between the windings. The insulation voltage indicates which voltage the insulation must withstand.
