The beam angle, often also referred to as the beam, half-beam or aperture angle, describes the extent of the light lobe in degrees, within which at least 50% of the maximum luminous intensity of a luminaire is measured. The smaller the value, the narrower the light beam. According to EU Regulation No. 1194/2012, the beam angle must in most cases be indicated on the illuminant sold. However, the regulation also allows exceptions, so that from time to time there are still luminaires on the market without indication of the beam angle.
