The term adaptive lighting refers to dynamic lighting and is used in both indoor lighting and street lighting.
Adaptive Lighting in Indoor Spaces
In indoor spaces, such as open-plan offices or vehicle lighting, the lighting adapts to the light conditions throughout the day. It can either use sensors to complement the existing light or fully simulate the progression of natural daylight.
Adaptive Street Lighting
Adaptive street lighting automatically adjusts brightness by detecting the movement of pedestrians and cyclists, dimming to as low as 10% of the light intensity when no movement is detected. The lamps also communicate with each other, ensuring that multiple lights illuminate ahead of and behind a person. This technology saves energy, protects nocturnal insects, and reduces light pollution in cities without compromising essential safety standards.
