Micro OptoTEC MBX Series

Micro OptoTEC MBX Series

Laird Thermal Systems has introduced the groundbreaking OptoTEC™ MBX Series, setting a new standard in thermal management where optoelectronic applications struggle with space constraints.

The micro OptoTEC™ MBX series redefines heat pump capacity in a compact form factor, offering unrivaled performance for space-constrained optoelectronic applications. Utilizing next-generation thermoelectric device materials and advanced ceramic substrates, this series offers microscopic dimensions as small as 1.6 x 1.6 mm and thicknesses as thin as 0.9 mm.

What sets the OptoTEC™ MBX series apart is its exceptional heat pump density, reaching up to 27 W/cm2 at lower operating currents compared to conventional thermoelectric coolers. This means precise temperature stabilization even in fluctuating environmental conditions, which is essential for demanding applications such as LiDAR systems for autonomous vehicles, pluggable optical transceivers for telecommunications and indium phosphide VCSELs.

To meet the diverse needs of customers, Laird Thermal Systems offers highly customizable solutions. With unique ceramic substrate materials and thicknesses and two solder structures that allow reflow temperatures of up to 280°C, they ensure compatibility with a wide range of requirements. The connectors are wire bondable and offer options such as gold-plated pads or pins. In addition, special surface finishing options such as gold-plated patterns on ceramic substrates, pre-tinning of metallized surfaces and the attachment of thermistors are available to meet specific requirements.

For Andrew Dereka, Product Manager for Thermoelectrics at Laird Thermal Systems, "the new cooling applications in the optoelectronic market are pushing the limits of thermoelectric cooler process technology." With a dedicated production line for the OptoTEC™ MBX product series, Laird ensures high production capacity, precise process control, repeatability and competitiveness.

In addition, the OptoTEC™ MBX series undergoes rigorous Telcordia GR-468 CORE qualification testing to ensure high repeatability and long-term uptime even under extreme conditions.

Want to find out more? We would be happy to discuss how the OptoTEC™ MBX series can improve your thermal management strategy.
